I didn't have any problems with damage or fit, either -- the crib arrived undamaged, and the standard-sized mattress I bought (Sealy soybean foam core) fit perfectly and snugly around all sides.This is a great, basic, simple, lightweight-but-sturdy-enough, inexpensive crib. Easy to put together (did it myself 7 months pregnant), and I love that I can convert it to a toddler bed later. I have no other crib experience to which to compare this crib, but I think it was a great choice. The mattress height levels are fairly easy to adjust as well, although that part would be easier with two people (I just propped it up on a box while working).No fumes out of the box, which was great. Natural finish goes well with the Ikea blonde dresser, shelving unit & rocker I got for the room.The only negative for me -- if you want a crib on rollers, the ones that come with this have a cheap-looking gold plastic finish around them. I didn't bother installing them, since I don't move the crib much. It's light enough to move easily, though -- but sturdy enough to not move accidentally.UPDATE: My baby has been sleeping in this crib for about 8 months now, and I still think it's great. I would say that if you want to use the rollers, you might want to look for a heavier crib -- the crib is fairly lightweight, and I think a motivated kid could rock it enough to get some movement if it was on rollers. Without the rollers, it's stable enough not to move. By the way, we moved to a new house, so the crib was completely taken apart and put back together again, and is just as sturdy as ever.UPDATE #2: Over a year later, still going strong. We just converted it to the toddler bed, so I thought I'd pass along that it was really easy to do and is working great. To convert the bed was a matter of removing the 4 screws holding the front piece on -- the rest of the bed remained perfectly intact. Then 4 more screws to install the toddler rail, and my kid climbed right into bed. Easy day.

We love this crib. It has that great traditional look we wanted at very reasonable price. It is also very easy to assemble, I think it took me about 10-15 minutes. The only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because I really wish it would come with the option of not attaching the wheels. It would be perfect if it came with the casters AND a set of feet if you didn't need or want the crib to roll. In theory, you could just not attach the wheels, but if you have wood floors like us, there is no doubt that you would end up with some nasty scratches from the wheel mounting hardware.

Great crib - simple but sturdy. I did think we were going to have a problem with a gap between mattress & crib when it was one up from the lowest setting, but my daughter is standing & tall enough that we have it on the lowest setting & there is no gap. I can't say for sure if there would have been because we were still in set-up mode when I thought a gap might be an issue. The only things are 1) the smell - why does it still smell after a month?! And 2) the photo shows a toddler rail & I don't see if it says it somewhere, but this does not come with a toddler rail. Otherwise I love the simplicity, the price & the ability to convert it later. I just wish I knew why, when it's non-toxic, it has an off- gas smell! I debated lowering it between one & two stars for that.
