I purchased this mattress because it seemed like a great price for an organic mattress.The only thing organic is the 85% cotton in the mattress. There is also polyester fill.The coating is "non-toxic", it just smells toxic. My baby woke up wreaking of plastic.It's a laminate that does contain vinyl, but it is a very small amount of vinyl so it doesn'tregister as toxic. Lesson learned, companies can sell something as organic even if onlypart of it is. My recommendation is Naturepedic products. They are excellent quality.

We got this for our 15 month old when I stopped nursing and co-sleeping. Previous to that he would sleep either in our bed or in a custom-made bed with a all-organic mattress. I didn't ever notice an off-gassing smell but then we purposefully left it in the garage for a month before we used it. My son found it very comfortable and would complain about less comfortable beds while visiting or traveling. My only complaints/warning would be that it is difficult to figure out which side is suppose to be for babies and it does have a plastic cover so you would want to plan on airing it out before using it.
